1968
1st Bn The Royal Green Jackets
No shooting in competition due to supporting 2RGJ with the Prix LeClerc, and other training commitments.
2nd Bn The Royal Green Jackets
After a days intensive practice we competed in the 4th Guards Brigade Rifle meeting. All our shots were in good form, and it was a most successful day.
The Battalion walked off with all the prizes except The Falling Plates.
Prix LeClerc
In January the Battalion had been chosen to represent Great Britian in the Prix LeClerc.
This year the rules have been changed so that the competition now looks like this:-
A) A 1400 metre run.
B) Followed by an Assault Course.
C) A defensive shoot.
D) Followed by an offensive shoot against field firing targets set out in a wide arc.
The competition was fired on the 12th July at Sennelager and the team did not do well in the run and assault course, but they won the shooting phase which brought them a fourth place behind the Belgians, Dutch and Canadians. Sgt Brooks’ squad won the prize for the best squad in the defence phase, of the shoot, and the team prize for the best team in this phase.
It has been an interesting experience doing the competition and the infusion of Prix LeClerc shots into platoons helped with the Infantry Platoon Challenge Trophy scores.
For our shooting competition though, the emphasis seemed to rely too much on the physical side and the shooting phases were not sufficiently difficult for the result to be decided on them rather than the physical side.

3rd Bn The Royal Green Jackets
No shooting competitions due to full commitment to 2nd Battalion and Prix LeClerc.
The Rifle Depot
The Depot Shooting Team had a successful summer and took all before them at The South East District Rifle Meeting, where it was particularly pleasant to see our Recruits Team (No 3 Platoon) win the Young Soldiers Competition.

Bisley
The Bisley team consisted of CSM Baird, Sgt Hollowday, Notley and Cpl Bissett. The team shot extremely well but suffered a cruel disappointment at the last moment. After winning three of the five competitions, which count towards the complete result, they were tied equal first for the Minor Units Championship but were finally placed second as a result of the rules which took the score in the Minor Units Cup as the decided factor. As this competition was shot in thick fog, with all teams averaging half what they achieved regularly in practice this was a particularly galling manner in which to be counted out. However on a more cheerful side, the team won:
THE STAFF AND SCHOOLs CUP.
THE WORCESTER CUP (L.M.G. pairs) won by CSM Baird & Sgt Hollowday.
This being the third occasion that CSM Baird had won this competition.

4th (Volunteer) Battalion RGJ
The Battalion Skill at Arms Meeting took place in May on electric targer ranges at Pirbright.
Sgt's Mess Rifle Meeting
This was held as usual at Henley Park Ranges in August. The meeting was very efficiently run by W02 Bill Isaacs, assisted by W02 Frank Dudley. Over 160 people, mess members, families and associate members managed to join us on the Sunday. The weather could not have been kinder which inevitably adds to the pleasure of a range week-end.

The above was won for the best Battalion aggregate scores.
Oxfordshire Battalion's ACF RGJ
Cadet Sgt S. Bampton, Headington Detachment, scored 198 out of a possible 200, to tie for second place in the Whistler Trophy.
Two teams were entered at Bisley and did well in the Frankfort Challenge Trophy and the Canada Challenge Trophy. Cadet Sgt S. Brampton came 7th in the N.R.A. Cadet ‘Hundred’.
1st Cadet Battalion The King's Royal Rifle Corps
All Companies have engaged in .22 shooting, but only ‘D’ Company have kept the flag flying in .303 competitions. A team was entered for the Watts Bowl, The Montgomery Shield and The Cadet National Competitions. ‘B’ Company had a successful time in both the 4th and 5th Battalion’s Rifle Meetings and gained a couple of good placings. Probably the use of Bunhill will eventually revive our fortunes in this sphere.

Our congratulations go to the .22 Shooting Team for winning the Lomax Shield for the third year in succession, in spite of losing our own .22 range owing to re-building.
