Jeff this time 'really' looking like a solder.

John ??? and me crossing the compound. However, it gives one an insight into what the accommodation looked like displayed behind us.

    Herbie and John.
  • Img144
Herby Helbert again, but I put no apologies for showing him on a repetitive bases because he does a lot these days for Help the heroes.

The Cookhouse Chefs in abundance: Phyl, Taff, Tony (SQMS), Smudge, Six Foot, and Scouse.
  • Img147
Tony (SQMS) and Phyl. A little note to this picture:- Tony was an excellent Chef. He was a great chap and always happy and cheerful and would cook anything, anywhere, and anytime for anybody. He had a grand attitude. However, reading the newspapers some years afterward I discovered he was murdered. I knew the person who was 'surposed' to have murdered him and he was certainly murdered in a very appropriate way for a Chef. I was deeply saddened this had happened because he was very well thought of by all. I do not want to say too much as to the circumstances of the affray between himself and his assassin because one cannot believe everything one reads in the newspapers and I may leave myself open to inappropriate criticism. Someone else may have more to say.

Bill and Tony serving a chap whom I knew as Royal Signals attached.

This is Chris Lawrenson. He and his wife, also called Chris, were friends of mine. Chris was the fastest sprinter in the Regiment, but he was not encouraged to keep up his training. He may well have made olympic standards eventually. He would give anyone else a full circut of the track start (on sports day) and still beat them by a full circut!!

This looks like Dougie Kerl (RQMS) is about to land someone with his ladle. The lad in front of him had to leave the army because he was hindered very badly with skin problems - psoriasis I think. He was a very nice, quiet chap. Must have been a nice chap because he was a Geordie!!

Dougie Kerl again in front of the MT Platoon.
  • Img152
You may recognise some of this lot.
  • Img153
Dougie is ready to 'pan' a REME attached.
  • Img154
    A chap called Bob Burgess.
  • Img156
Phy, Tony, Thomo (ration store man, and a bloody good one at that, probably the best), Herbie and Pedler.
  • Img157
Paddy, Butcher (nick named 'Butcher' because he WAS the Butcher - a very appropriate nick name, don't you think) and Scouse.
  • Img158
SSgt Terry Richardson, Pay Staff Sergeant. Counting his money, no doubt. He was good to the lads and looked after them if they were a bit short - legally, of course.
  • Img159
Me on a Chopper ride to photograph some locations which may appear familiar to most, but I think it better not to print the locations' names.

Guess the names - those visors don't help.

Now, can anyone tell me just why these handsome vehicles were called 'Pigs'???
